JAMES’ STORY:
A hot girl told me that God exists.
“Cheers anyway, I’m off for another pint with the lads. God; some megalomaniac in the sky who wants to poke at the things I do wrong, I don’t believe in him.”
She asked me if I wanted to go on Alpha to find out more, so I cut a deal and did. I was amazed at just how wrong I was about the things I thought I knew.
I’d loved having no faith. I’d felt free. I could follow my feelings and just ride through life willy-nilly. However, God showed me that I was only fooling myself and that being really free is not selfish but a golden opportunity to be free in your choices. God showed me a different type of freedom.
Actually I still don’t believe in the guy in the sky. The white beard had to go as well. The concept I had in my head was wrong. God as love? What is that all about? I had to ditch the stereotyped pew, organ, vicar image of faith and begin to build a vision of my life with Jesus in the centre. It was so hard and yet so simple - the only thing in my way was myself.
And the hot girl? She’s now my wife!
